23 Factors in Finding a Church Facility
Selecting a facility is not simply making a decision about where to gather for corporate worship, it says something about your perception of God and your congregation. In a 4-part series on the Acts 29 blog, Pastor Mark Driscoll outlined 23 factors to think about in finding a facility based on insights and lessons he learned when Mars Hill was a young church. Here are five of the factors he discusses:
-
1. Sight. Is the entrance easily visible? Does the building look maintained, safe and clean?
-
2. Time flexibility. Once you launch your congregation, will you be able to change the time if needed? Can you arrive early to set-up and stay late?
-
3. Setup and tear-down. How many volunteers will be required to set-up and tear down for your weekly gathering? Storage also plays an important role here.
-
4. Smell. If you meet in a gym, it is likely your church will smell like sweaty guys. People with allergies to flowers and incense also need to be considered here.
-
5. Comfort. Does the space have air conditioning or heating? Does the seating permit general comfort, particularly for those who may have physical problems such as back pain?
